Mechanics – The most conceptual part of JEE Physics

Mechanics is undoubtedly the most conceptual part of JEE Physics. In fact, the entire two year syllabus revolves around mechanics. While the exam paper has about 30% direct questions from mechanics, it is safe to assume that the paper also has another 30-35% questions indirectly involving mechanics. That’s a whopping 60-65% of the paper based on one single unit of Physics! Basically, what this means for you, the candidate, is that an absolute mastery over Mechanics is essential for a good rank. Also, keep in mind that mechanics CANNOT be mastered in a month… it needs about 8-10 months of rigorous practice to fully grab the concepts of mechanics. So, if initially, you cannot understand mechanics or solve its questions, don’t be disheartened. Most of the kids have trouble understanding mechanics.  Continue reading Mechanics – The most conceptual part of JEE Physics

Calculus 101 : Differential Calculus

The Case with Differential Calculus :

Do you like to watch the skateboarding competitions?Where do you find the thrill, in the skating on the flat ground or on the curved part?

Just for a moment…. rewind the skateboarding video that you are watching alongside as you read this article…. and observe the motion of the head of the skateboarder? Do you see that for very short time intervals, the head moves approximately as a straight line?

Did you know that simple mathematics can help you calculate the tilt of this ‘line’ (something we call the slope)? If not, then differential calculus is the way to go. Finding the slope is one of the basic tasks that differential calculus deals with. That is not all, however. Differential Calculus is a much more diverse and beautiful science which explains a lot about the world. In fact, all the major researchers in the world use calculus extensively. Simply speaking, calculus is the most logical and useful part of mathematics, specially in JEE syllabus. Continue reading Calculus 101 : Differential Calculus

Scoring high in BITSAT with just 10 months of preparation…

Definitely, it can be done !

Even if you do not exclusively prepare for BITSAT, and rather prepare for JEE and other engineering entrances too, you can still score these marks in BITS.

Many of the top scorers of BITS do not particularly prepare for BITS. Trust me, this comes out to be my own experience. Well, so the question that remains here is…

How do I prepare in these 10 months? Continue reading Scoring high in BITSAT with just 10 months of preparation…

Modern Physics : Quick, simple, and easy

Everyone knows what modernity stands for, right? Speed. Yup, that’s the answer. And how do we achieve it…. Well, we use short cuts, tricks, slangs, etc. Everyone knows what “IDK’ stands for, right? Such a long line….shortened into three letters. Yeah, that is the new modern generation. Quick, fast and short. Presenting the shortest unit of the enitre JEE syllabus, something as short as its modernity and as quickly understood… Yup, you guessed it right. It is none other than Modern Physics, the most scoring unit of JEE Physics. Continue reading Modern Physics : Quick, simple, and easy

My Time-Table for Study – Aakash Kapoor

A lot of people have been asking me about the time-table that I followed while preparing for JEE and other exams. In this article, I shall be briefly outlining an average study day during my JEE Preparation. Keep in mind that all days are not the same and there are many events that occur, leading to a disruption of your preset time-table.

How to make a timetable the right way !

Plan the right way, and your work is half done. That’s what the thing is…. Having a timetable is crucial to your life, in any ways. You might be a genius, you might have the best study material or you might have the best teachers. However, if you do not have a timetable and a regular fixed schedule of study, you will hardly be able to realise your full potential in the examinations.

JEE – A Game of Perseverance (By Rahul Agrawal, JEE-2016 AIR 485)

So, as the title speaks, as far as I think, JEE  is more of a game of perseverance wherein your biggest challenge is your patience and not your raw talent and knowledge. However, I don’t have any intentions of offending all those who are currently preparing for JEE or have cracked it. Continue reading JEE – A Game of Perseverance (By Rahul Agrawal, JEE-2016 AIR 485)

Is JEE level Physics enough for Indian Physics Olympiad (InPhO) ?

Firstly, Enough might mean just enough level to scrape off a okish score in JEE Advanced or it might mean good enough to score 90% in JEE Advanced. Going by my personal experience, you can clear INPHO (Indian Physics Olympiad) if your concepts of physics are strong enough and you can apply them practically. So, in a word, yes. JEE level physics can get you through, however syllabus completion and a large exposure to tough problems is a must. R C Mukerjee : The Godbook for Physical Chemistry

So, one day, Aakash comes to me and says,”I want to strengthen physical chemistry…give me a problem sheet having problems related to the important topics.” I replied, “There is an amazing  collection of problems in R C Mukerjee. Practice it and tell me if you have any doubt”

From then on, Aakash made a habit of finishing RCM for every chapter. Although the book doesn’t contain a collection of challenging problems, he found them helpful for providing a good start in a chapter. I think the above paragraph was enough to make you understand that RCM is useful. However, go through the review below to understand its actual worth ! Continue reading R C Mukerjee : The Godbook for Physical Chemistry

Prepare for KVPY-SA in 2 months

Qualifying KVPY provides direct admission to top institutes like IISc and the various IISERs. Moreover, in past few years, it has become a competitive exam where earning the badge of KVPY scholar is as good as glorious.

KVPY exam is just two months away. Frankly speaking, it can be compared to JEE-Main when it comes to the difficulty level of the written paper. However, some problems are very easy in KVPY and can be solved easily.The 2015 paper was, surprisingly, a bit tough in Biology. However, there is no cause for panic. 60 days are more than enough to clear KVPY. Continue reading Prepare for KVPY-SA in 2 months

Journey from a back-bencher to IIT Dhanbad

After completing my 10th std, I took admission in a school integrated program of Bansal Classes. I had a dream. The dream was to crack JEE, make my family proud by becoming an IITian. Study materials, faculty and everything was at par with the JEE prep at Bansals but unfortunately I just got off the track and lost my interest in studies and got completely slipped away from the dream of my life:- “CRACKING IIT JEE”. I became a back bencher in the classroom least bothered about any kind of homework or practicing problems.

How to clear JEE in a short time, viz 3-4 months

I was a regular school goer all my 11th and the first two months of my 12th. I was not attending any coaching. I had a enrolled in a test series (FIITJEE I think) and got volumes of material which I would occasionally flip through. A decent performance at school level academics kept me oblivious to the time I was losing. Fast forward 10 months and I was battling it out against all the engineering aspirants of the country in a gruelling 6 hour JEE Advanced test that changed my life. I want to convey through this piece of writing that it is possible to get a decent JEE rank in a short time provided that one is ready to accept the challenge and dedicate his time and efforts.
